Why I am in Love with Mr Clean
by Jennifer Schultz
You might be asking yourself based on the title if this is a story about the love of my life, my husband. It’s not. This is actually a story about how for the past 5 years, I have struggled to get my free standing shower made of a combination of acrylic and plastic with a glass door, clean. Forget that the shower is very small, and lacks proper lighting to even see well or that I have to take off the door so that I am not playing a version of bathroom Twister in order to reach all the surfaces.
The biggest problem is soap scum. I have tried everything. I have spent countless dollars on what is advertised to be the best of the best – cleaners with bubbles, cleaners with bleach, cleaners with foam, and cleaners with organic ingredients. Not once since we purchased this house with this shower have I felt that when I was done cleaning it, that it was clean. I could scrub for a good 4 hours and while it appeared cleaner, I could still see and feel areas of soap scum that didn’t come off. Additionally, the non-slip surface on the floor was never as white as when we moved in. Flash forward several years later and many hours of elbow grease and scrubbing, to this past weekend when I was doing my ritual of washing the shower and I ran out of my standard cleaner. I ran out to the grocery store and when I was in the aisle grabbing some Mr. Clean Magic Erasers – which are both a favorite of mine and my husband for getting fingerprints off of walls, light switches, sneakers, our white kitchen cabinets and the list goes on. I noticed that there was a new eraser called a Bathroom Scrubber that promised to blast soap scum away. I grabbed one to try and threw it in my cart. When I got back home, I climbed back up my stairs to my “favorite” cleaning duty to try and finish cleaning the shower. Again I used my standard cleaner, scrubbed away for 30 minutes and began the weekly frustration of it not working. I had almost forgotten about the Magic Eraser Bath Scrubber that I just bought. I wasn’t going to put much stock it in working, because so many other cleaners had not.
I wet the eraser and started to scrub the wall. I stopped. I looked at the wall. Was I seeing things? Was it working? It couldn’t be. I thought at first I must have been in some kind of bleach intoxicated cloud from the previous cleaner. I started to scrub again. Up, down, side to side, (wax on, wax off for you Karate Kid fans), and circle, circle, circle. Whiter and whiter the shower and floor became. I could not believe it! It could not have been this simple. Where had this scrubber been hiding? Was I so used to going down the cleaning supply aisle in a daze? In twenty minutes I was done. I actually did a “happy dance”. I didn’t even get to do a before/after picture because I really didn’t know it would work. I vow to no longer use cleaning supplies that do not work. If you are looking for a great cleaning solution for your shower or tub, get the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Bath Scrubber. Buy them by the case – I know I am going to!
